Harland and Wolff have performed the World’s heaviest single point WaterLoad test at the shipyard facility in Belfast, United Kingdom. The massive Samson gantry crane lifted an incredible 774 tonne load in order to certify Harland and Wolff’s latest spreader beam arrangement. The spreader beam has been a strategic investment to support the company’s handling capability for large offshore structures such as jackets and offshore modules.

Wednesday 7th August 2013 witnessed the Fire, Ambulance and Police services of Northern Ireland all involved in a major emergency training exercise in Harland and Wolff, designated code name ‘Exercise Samson’. Designed to test and improve the effectiveness of the emergency procedures for a major incident, it also provided a test-bed for new communications technology to enhance an already comprehensive line-up.

Today, the latest milestone for the flagship offshore wind farm, Gwynt y Môr, will be achieved with the departure by sea of the UK engineered and built Siemens'' offshore substation. Destined for installation in Liverpool Bay, the 1,500 tonne platform was jointly designed, engineered and fabricated by Siemens in Manchester and Belfast-based shipbuilders Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries Ltd.
