Harland and Wolff’s Environmental Management System is awarded ISO certification.
Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries Limited are pleased to announce that its Environmental Management System has been awarded certification conforming to the standard BS-EN-ISO 14001:2004. This internationally recognised standard is awarded to organisations whose operations minimise any detrimental effect to the environment, comply with applicable laws and regulations and continually evaluate and improve their performance. For many years the company has focused on achieving an exemplary environmental performance and now with this prestigious external reference can further develop its management strategy in order to harmonise the Environmental, Quality and Health and Safety Management systems.
Alan Haley, Manager responsible for Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, complimented the implementation team “This award is the starting point in this continually improving process and we look forward to further developing the Environmental Management System in synchronisation with the Quality and Health and Safety Management Systems. The implementation team had full support, from the shop floor workers to the Chief Executive and I am very pleased with the personal dedication shown by everyone in our environmental responsibilities.”
The certification award date was 21st May 2012 and was validated by Det Norske Veritas, one of the leading classification societies, who also provide certification for Harland and Wolff’s Quality Management System and Health and Safety Management System according to ISO 9001 and ISO 18001.
Haley continues “Our ultimate objective is to harmonise all three management systems into one, which is a step change in Company culture to promote all three disciplines simultaneously. The implementation of a unified approach to Quality Health Safety and The Environment will lead to further improvement in company performance without detriment to any of the constituent system elements”
